Our Heroes, Our Veterans

"O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more then self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!"

--Lyrics from, America the Beautiful--

I am truly grateful to the men and women who have fought to preserve the liberty and values of these United States of America.  You deserve our respect, honor and pride. It is a privilege on this Veterans Day to reflect on your sacrifice, patriotism and brave actions in the face of evil.  Thank you for your courage and commitment to our great country.  May God bless you and protect you.

Sincerely,
Amanda

I had the priviledge of meeting Frances & Ed Mayes Italian teacher this past spring, outside of Cortona. She is a young girl, named Linda, who is studying law. We were staying at Il Casale, outside of Cortona, and on a walk, when I met her mother. She invited us up for appertifs and introduced us to Linda, her daughter. The funny thing was, that the mother spoke no English, and we spoke very little Italian, yet, when I mentioned Frances Mayes, her eyes lit up and we managed to communicate. She sent us on our way with a bocquet of purple irises and a head of endive lettuce. A sweet memory I will always treasure of Tuscany...
